Not unusual. My 4.0 takes 6 quarts. I put 5+ in, start her and let her run for about 60 seconds. Shut her down, let her sit for 5, and you will see she needs another 1/2 quart to top her off. My 2.5 takes 4 quarts, same deal. Put in 3+ she looks full on the dipstick. Run her for a minute, let her sit.
I added DEF at 5000 miles, when the gauge was less than 1/4. I think the manual says the 8 gallon tank of DEF should last about 6000 miles. So it appears your dealer did not fill it, and no one check the gauge. These Jeeps are very new and different to most sales people and service at dealerships.
